Hello Forum

I (Irish person living and working in the UK) was married in Japan in January to my wife (Japanese). We would like to have the marriage registered in the UK too as every time we produce our marriage cert in Japanese (with a translation) it causes confusion and we feel it might be better to have it registered. Also on a more serious note, if we did (and i really hope we never do) get divorced in the future and we are living in the UK I assume it would be best to have a marriage that is 100% recognised in the UK.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I think it might be a bit different for me because I am not from the UK?

Thanks

Tom

Hmmmm, looks like the option is to "deposit" the marriage in the UK..

But sine one of us is not from the UK this is not possible

To deposit your documents:

you must have been married in a foreign country, but not a Commonwealth country (see list below) or an overseas territory
one of you must be British
you can deposit a civil partnership document from any country in the world (i.e. foreign and Commonwealth countries and overseas territories)
