Hi,

I spent 2 years in OZ on a WHV and my girlfriend and I are desperate to leave broken britain so we can provide a better life for our son. I have retrained as a gas engineer but not through an apprenticeship. My GF is deliberating on whether to train as a physio or a PE teacher, so if anyone has any advice on that front as well that would be fantastic.

I would like to hear from any UK gas fitters who WERE NOT apprentice trained that have emigrated to oz and went through the TRA assessment process.

how did you get on?
was happens in the process?
was the fact you had not done an apprenticeship a problem?

I've been going around in circles trying to find some reliable info on the net so if there's anyone who was in my situation and can help me out I would be very grateful.

Thanks, Andy.

I'm not a gas fitter so I'll leave that issue for others to address.

I just want to wish you luck because you are coming here for the right reasons, so you're halfway here already.

We need more people who are keen and have the right attitude. If it where up to me I would award extra points for that.

The toe dippers are the worst because most of them don't last when they get here, and that annoys me because they've taken the place of someone like you.

Hi Jaycee, thanks for such a great comment, yes I think we should be given extra points!

Thanks for the advice and links you sent I'll be sure to check them out. Exciting times ahead for us, fingers crossed it all goes well.
