Hi, and welcome to Cyprus. If you are in or near Paphos - when we arranged other insurances at Top Quotes up the Mesoyi Ave.back in July, we noticed what seemed to be quite a good medical insurance policy through them.
We have a temporary Cypriot medical card at the moment obtained via the S1 from the UK, lasting up to Jan 2014. Would a similar arrangement be possible?

You should able to get a temp medical card with a form S1 and if your husband manages to get a job and pays into the social fund you would then be covered to use the general.
Only if neither of you are paying into the social fund do you need insurance.

If you search through past threads you will find information on this.

There are 2 major points:
1. The cost of medical insurance is from a fixed scale based on age.
2. The policy will exclude any existing conditions and any conditions vaguely related to them. Many policies will also state that existing conditions are excluded whether you know about them or not.

You will also find that most companies have you pay upfront and then they issue the policy. Only then you will be aware of exactly what the exclusions are. You have 30 days to cancel.

Thanks all, but we haven't come from the uk, we were living and working in Germany, so S1 form doesn't apply to us. Just needed any good insurance companies. Thanks anyway.

If your husband get a job you are still entitled to Cyprus healthcare. Just in case bring a form E104 from your German insurance
