Hola,

I am an EU and UK citizen and will soon be moving to Malaga permanently. I will work remotely and register as an autonomo. I am aware that as an EU citizen I do not need a private health insurance and since I will register as an autonomo I will have access to the national health system. However, for peace of mind I would like to also get a private health insurance. The main thing is accessibility to English speaking doctors/staff. I am learning Spanish and look forward to integrate, so hopefully can be fluent in a year or so, but till then I want to have this safety net. From the research I have done ASISA, DKV and Sanitas would be the best available options.

Does anyone have any recommendations/experiences? I am not overly bothered about the price, as having this covered is an important aspect for me. I don't have any current or ongoing health issues.

I've been happy with Occident, and in the past had good experiences with Sanitas. In the past few months a surprising number of friends and acquaintances who have ASSSA have had trouble with them, ranging from refusal to cover cancer treatments doctors insist are necessary, to telling patients they can't have certain tests because new conditions have suddenly become pre-existing conditions when it was clearly not true. Luckily these people also had public health coverage to turn to, but to me it sounds like ASSSA may be one to avoid.
