Hello Friends

I am currently in India, working in the Management level in the IT unit of a captive MNC Bank.
I have 14+ years of work exp. all of it being in IT.

I have got a State Invite (NSW) and currently awaiting 189 invite (waited for July 2017 quota to open).
I anticipate to be in Melbourne in late Oct /early Nov, I had a couple of questions , kindly provide your inputs:

1. Is there a way to search for, apply and contact jobs/recruiters while in india, for a prospective job in Australia.

2. What are the channels (eg. linkedin) which are to be practically leveraged upon in order to apply for job and contact recruiters.

3. I have heard that getting the first break is a Herculean task, any practical tips to over come /face this challenge.

4. I was told that around a month prior to Australia entry I need to have an Australian SIM and provide that local numbers to recruiters , such as to advance in job hunt. Can you please let know which SIM/cost/brand I need to procure to conduct this activity.

5. In job interviews, will they ask what my compensation expectations are or will they offer a figure (risky in the sense that they would offer a much lesser amount since I am in need)

Thanks

Job Code: 261311, Analyst Programmer
Points 190(NSW) -75, (189)-70

my profile is similar to u..i am waiting for grant and your waiting for invite :)

1. Is there a way to search for, apply and contact jobs/recruiters while in india, for a prospective job in Australia.

with my knowledge, chances are very thing to get a job from India. Few are lucky to get internal transfer to their AU office after receiving PR

2. What are the channels (eg. linkedin) which are to be practically leveraged upon in order to apply for job and contact recruiters.

Linkedin, networking through contacts, seek.com, and other web portals

3. I have heard that getting the first break is a Herculean task, any practical tips to over come /face this challenge.

Be prepared for technology jobs. In management you will not find many, try to get ur hands dirty learning any new technology in demand

4. I was told that around a month prior to Australia entry I need to have an Australian SIM and provide that local numbers to recruiters , such as to advance in job hunt. Can you please let know which SIM/cost/brand I need to procure to conduct this activity.

You can take mobile sim and bank account in 1-2 days of your arrival in AUS.

5. In job interviews, will they ask what my compensation expectations are or will they offer a figure (risky in the sense that they would offer a much lesser amount since I am in need)

Dont think too much :) getting first job is key. Lot of people offer to server for free :)..be open for anything on ur first job..

all the best

In general, it is very hard to secure a job before arriving, but it is is not impossible.

It is best to be prepared before arriving, start learning as much as you can about the job search here, get to know the companies in your field, research advertisements in your field & what keywords they are looking for, broaden your job search, start applying before arriving ....etc.
thanks much for the response, enga.
