hi friends
one of my friend's PR expired in 2017.
can he renew it now ? or he has to start the process all together gain ?

any advantage he will be getting of having a PR from 2012-2017 ?

just want to know, if someone can suggest, if any

Unfortunately he will need to start again.

If he did come over to Australia for an extended period and still has close connections (eg house, job, friends and family) then it may be worth him discussing with a Mara agent.

you didn't mention "how much time" if he lived in Australia between 2012-17 on PR?.. If not lived at all, then back to square1.. if he lived 1-2 yrs, then can try luck with short term 3 month RRV visa..

If your friend is offshore and has neither spend a considerable amount of time in Australia (or) does not have significant ties to Australia, then they would have to start the PR process from scratch.

Which country does he live in? If he lives in Australia and has lived in Australia since he got his PR, he can just apply for citizenship.

HI.
Thanks for your response.

Yes, he came to aus , lived in for 1 years between on Work visa 2009-2010 (on work) and went back to home country. applied for PR, got the PR , came to Aus (landed) and then as part of step in and moved back.never came back and his PR expired in 2017

he want to apply for PR now and move to Aus. looking for some info, if his earlier PR would help him in reapplying for PR

any inputs would really help.

Cheers.

Hi,

If your friend was in Australia for even 1 day after PR was granted then he is eligible for RRV 157. He can get a 3 month RRV and then come to Australia, stay and keep renewing the RRV. Note that this will be expensive until he gets a 5 year RRV.

Only with substantial justifications and facts where you can convince the CO but that is also very difficult unless have families ties, properties, etc etc.

Can give it a try, no harm trying buts comes with a cost.

If he cant show any compelling reason for his long absence from Australia which is more than 5 years, it would be impossible for him to get an RRV (visa type 155 or 157) and its the same as renewing PR. The only remaining option is to apply for PR once again which has become very difficult to get now-a-days as point system changed.
