Hi guys,

I am considering to proceed an application for visa 189.

I hold PhD degree and currently an university lecturer (already assessed by VETASSESS, positive result), but now I consider applying as an engineer. So, the question is

Is that possible to claim point for PhD degree if the nominated occupation is of engineer in the close specialise ?

Is there anybody having experienced or heard about that ? or your opinion.

All is valuable for me.

Thanks

- You can submit a MSA Competency Demonstration Report to assess you engineering bachelor degree in a suitable occupation. (The outcome of this assessment can give you 15 points to apply for PR if you do not assess you PhD).

- As you have a PhD degree, you can submit an application to assess your oversea PhD degree. The outcome of this assessment can give you more points (20+5, I guess)

Two of these assessments are separated and you need to pay fee for both. Go to EA portal and create an account, you can see these options.

Hope it helps

If you can get a positive assessment for your PhD by Engineers Australia (more info here: engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/resource-files/2017-03/MSA%20Booklet.pdf), you will be able to claim 20 points (border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/189-?modal=/visas/supporting/Pages/skilled/the-points-table.aspx).
