Hello Everyone,

I am 42 yrs old Indian having around 16 years of corporate experience working in India, US , South Africa & Switzerland. All my life I have worked for Indian companies only. I left my job in March 2014 and till date I am in my own business in IT industry which is not picking up at the pace I wanted.

My overall experience is in Banking ( ICICI Bank) & IT (TCS & Zensar). I am married and have 2 kids 13 & 3 yrs.

Now I plan to migrate to Australia with my family and work there for companies in Australia. I plan to move and then search for a job in Australia. I know the steps but I am not sure if there is something missing apart from this. Also I have few queries. MY doubts are as follows :

1. Migration is a 3 step process

a. Skill Assessment
What documents should I attach for my business while uploading OR can I just upload the previous work experience docs only? Please advise in detail.

b English Exam
If I score a bank of 7 I will achieve a score of 60 ? IS that correct


c. EOI application
I have no doubt here.

Any other process If I am missing then let me now please. Also how much money and time it takes to complete the process.

a. Depends. Do you want them to assess your current (self employed) work experience as skilled and want to claim points for it? I suggest you do because 2 years of work experience is quite substantial to let go of. b. No. Not correct. IELTS score of 7 (in each module) does not give you 60 points. It would just give you 10 points for English proficiency. You will need a total of 60 points from your age, education, skilled (assessed) work experience, and English. You can also benefit from additional 5 points if your partner too can be assessed in a skilled occupation from the same occupations list (as yours) and can pass the English proficiency requirement. They way I see it, you have 15 points for age, 15 for education, 15* (best case) for work experience, and 10** for English. Total 55.

* if ACS assesses 8+ of your work experience at a skilled level. A lot depends on your education, your "relevant" work experience, relevance of your education to your occupation, etc. I highlighted "relevant" because your Banking experience may not be considered. ** assuming 7+ in each IELTS module (or equivalent PTE/ TOEFL/ etc). You may gain 20 points for a score of 8+ in each. If required, you can opt for the state sponsored 190 scheme where a sponsoring state can help you with 5 points.

Costs: ACS assessment requires around 500 AUD, English test requires 200 AUD, medicals approx 70 AUD per person (done in India), and cost for the visa itself can be estimated here: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Visa-1 You'll need PCCs and costs for these vary per country.

Timelines: Depends on how soon you can arrange all the documents for assessment, pass the English language tests, and then eventually your total points because the amount of time you wait to receive an invite depends on your occupation, points, and the backlog for this occupation. Time to receive an invite for 190 (state sponsorship) can be even more and unpredictable. Finally, there is waiting time for them to assess your visa application, undertake verification and checks (if required) and to grant the visa, so this time too is unpredictable.
