In-law's daughter (she married a Canadian and is currently visiting) gave us a specialty gift from Bohol, it's called Asin Tibuok (rare sea salt) and the box came with a history of how it's made, it comes in a small clay pot, this salt is not cheap. I'll definitely add it to a stir-fry and also sample using it sparingly with some of my crock pot recipes.
We also received in the basket a glass bottle shaped like a Maple Leaf, Canadian maple Syrup. I've only seen Canadian syrup sold at the SM Grocery stores, the negative is that the bottle is somewhat small, and I'm ready to pile on the real Maple syrup, it's been a long time.
From what I can see (we didn't get to meet her, long agonizing story) the daughter-in-law who graduated here, from Computer Engineering school has made a good living out of importing specialty items from the Philippines and possibly other nations, and she skillfully makes history booklets that go with each item and sells these products in Canada.
