Hi All,

Me and my partner are almost there! We have be sponsored by the WA government for our visa, and have just been for medicals etc. :)

We are looking mainly for info on the best and cheapest suburbs to stay in Perth. We were looking at scarborough?? Im 24 and my partner is 27 so we dont want to stay too far from the city.

Also we have been looking into jobs for when we arrive, does anyone know of any construction firms specialising in Civil Engineering?

Any info at all would be great, and hopefully we will be out there soon.

Thanks
Hazel and Scott :p

Hi Hazel and Scott,

Welcome to the forum.

If you haven't already done so, try doing a forum search on Perth since they will bring up past discussions on Perth.

Can't help you with areas in Perth since I'm in SE South Australia.

Regards,
Karen

Hadie, firstly let me say good luck.

Secondly I'm considering pursuing state sponsorship with WA - I'm a mechanical building services design engineer. Can you offer any advice on how the process went for you?

Sorry I can't offer any help on your original question.

We started the process in October last year, but we went through an agent (migration expert) which made the process a lot easier as there is a lot of paper work involved. We applied for the Skills sponsored visa and went to the Perth Government for sponsorship in Feb, and heard back in June that they were willing to sponsor us. Since then everything has went quite quickly, we have been for our medicals and sent our police checks off, and judging by turn around times, we’re hoping to here back by October.

If you are going on a skilled visa you will have to sit an English test at your local university (bizarre I know). If you also decide to go through an agent I highly recommend Migration Expert, they have been excellent, be prepared though it does cost you. You can google them, as I cant paste URL's

Hope this helps but if you have any more specific questions, just let me know.

Thanks
:)
