Dear Expats

A month ago I initiated an international money transfer from an HSBC AU branch to an account in Germany via online banking. Both accounts belong to me.

As the money did not arrive, and still hasn't, I contacted the bank and they offered me to start a payment tracing for the fee of 25AUD. I agreed.

However I am pretty sure I did not make a mistake entering the transaction details as I used a saved template I have successfully used before.

I would like to know whether or not I can ask for a refund to claim back the payment tracing fee, additional bank and retrieval fees if it turns out it was a mistake by the bank and not mine?

As for German law I know a German financial institute is not allowed to charge anything in case it's the bank's mistake. How is this handled in Oz?

Are there any experience in that respect out there?

Cheers, Martin
