Hi, I am a PR in Australia and I travel overseas for work quiet frequently. Recently I got an AVO and got a lapsing order (interim order). It is only a civil matter and my police check shows “no disclosable outcome”. Also the AVO is light and no restrictions regarding travel. However, I heard that usually Australian immigration asks questions while returning. I am quite scared as it has been a traumatic experience for me and want to be prepared.

An interim order is typically granted when the court believes that there is a need for immediate safety and is intended to provide protection for someone until such time as a final court decision can be granted.

Yes, Australia takes domestic violence seriously, but ultimately at this juncture, there should be no impact so long as no final orders are made when the matter is heard by the courts.

Comply with all the conditions, violating conditions, even an interim order is a criminal matter.
