Thanks for the very helpful suggestions on how to do this trip without flying. We will have to rent a car, and stay in Airbnb's along the way. I know it's a very general question, but in general - what are we up against? I will be the only driver and can't drive at night. I'm also a bit nervous of aggressive drivers. Also - what ID's will both of us need? And will the rental car company allow a cat? We're new to Mexico, retiring here. Would love any info / suggestions. Thank you!

Oh wow. I just looked that up, that would be perfect. And I will spend some time looking at the roads, we may be able to drive all the way to Laredo and sell our truck there (too old to bring into Mexico and we are retiring there permanently). Laredo is the perfect place to sell a beautiful old pickup. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Many expat stay in Matahuela in a hotel that accepts pets or a no tell motel on their way to Guadaljara so no big differnce with San Miguel Also the cat could stay in the car overnight if you take his litter and food. The nights are usually cool. The rental cars company do not ask about pets but cheack the car condition to see if there is any damage. Also take the legal insurrance when renting a car. The rental are cheap without the extra insurrance and expnsive ith all the insurrance but take the insurrance with legal id if you ar driving. Also driving a car one way is not cheap but check all the companies and you maybe able to find a deal.
