No increase for UK skilled worker visas

Interesting. The current limit of 21,700 has been undersubscribed (only about 10,000 visas are expected to be taken up), yet the recommendation is still to keep it at the present level. It really shows the depth of economic crisis gripping UK and reluctance of companies to recruit, esp from outside EEA. This should be borne in mind by those who are hoping to be sponsored for a work visa.

Its driving me mad, there is no work. I've applied for maybe 15 jobs in the last month. Only heard back from one who told me there were 150 applicants for it and this was for a professional role not a min wage job! There just isnt any work and if there are workers needed the companies are not hiring because they cant afford to so are very unlikely to look to be shipping in from overseas.

And my student daughter only wants a part-time job in a shop and yet 180 other people applied for one vacancy, here on Lancashire coast.

the company I work for has been struggling to fill close to 10 open positions going on 4 months now. I recently applied for one job at a different company which I ended up turning down as the had given me a not so great offer. One of the HR people there told me that they used to get close to 100-150 applicants every time they advertised vacancies (last year/the year before), but this year and for this job especially they had a total of 6 applications even after advertising the job over 3 months.

I should also add that the company has actually resorted to giving up to 2000 pounds bonus for successful referrals, (If I refer someone I know to submit their CV and they get the job, I get a cash bonus). That is how bad it is to find qualified people now.

manufacturing technicians, manufacturing manager, QA, QC, field technical support, 3 x product support vacancies and there other administrative posts that i cant remember at the moment. The industry is Pharmaceutical/Diagnostics
