It's difficult. to reply without more details on the subjects you mention. However, probably the most important aspects are that you have resilience, a good sense of humour, and are prepared for ......"many things are different in France".

As has already been said, there are countless variables. Among them: the reason for the move (i.e. work, "different lifestyle", retirement, etc.), age of the children, how much French do any of you speak?, and probably most importantly, what are your expectations?
