Hi, we are thinking of moving to Spain permanently, but are confused by so much that we read online about health care. My partner is receiving his state pension,l have another 18 months to go. Where do we stand regarding prescriptions? Any advice please??

If your partner is receiving UK Pension he can get his healthcare transferred to Spain by using the S1 healthcare scheme which is paid for by the UK government. Depending on which area you live in Spain and income you have could result in free prescriptions or 10% of cost.

You mentioned "partner" so if you are not married, you, being under pensionable age will need private healthcare and have to pay full price for medicines etc.

Prescriptions are available through your doctor as they are in the UK.

You will need to look at all the requirements for income and healthcare to obtain a visa to live here in Spain permanently.

Here is a link to the Non lucrative visa. There is all the information you need about income, healthcare and other documents that you will need to submit.

You will need to submit your application forms to your nearest Spanish consulate.

That could help him claim Spanish nationality, so he wouldn't need a visa at all, nor an S1, since as a Spanish national he would be entitled to state healthcare anyway.

If you're not married, it essentially changes nothing for you, unless you have a form of legal partnership recognised by Spain.

I honestly don't know but It's quite possible, because of Spanish parents, that he may be able to apply for a Spanish passport which would help. I don't know the procedure for that option but hopefully someone on here will know and join the conversation.
