I am moving to Melbourne with my family ( 3 of us including 6 yr old son ) from India.
My office will be on Elizabeth Street in CBD.

My budget of rental is $300 to $370 max per week.

Here is my basic rental criteria....

1. Home / Apt must have 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms and 1 Car Park.
2. As close to a good primary school as possible.
3. As close to train station as possible. Even though I would keep a car,
it would mostly be used on evenings and weekends. Work commute will
be public transport.

Some of the suburbs I shortlisted with houses on realestate.com.au were...

WESTERN SIDE
1. Sunshine
2. Altona North
3. Altona Meadows
4. Seabrook
5. Footscray

NORTHERN SIDE
1. Preston
2. Ascot Vale
3. Reservoir
4. Coburg

Among these, what are the good [ space, safety, community, accessibility ] suburbs to live in ?

Any other suggestions are most welcome.

Thank you
Regards
Asheesh

I would probably recommend North rather than West but it is a personal choice. I htink North will be easier commute to and from the City. Coburg is a good recommendation. You will no doubt find schools and accommodation to suit you in most of these areas. Another good website for rentals is Domain.com.au so you give that a try and see what you find. It will give you information such as schools and transport too
