My husband and I will be moving to London in September, and I am trying to find information on what kind of maternity coverage is available for American expats.
My husband will be in the U.K. on a "representative of an overseas business" visa, and I will be a dependent on a spouse visa. We will both be paying the health surcharge.
If I become pregnant in the U.K. do I have to wait any amount of time before I will be covered for maternity care and delivery by the NHS? Should I be looking into private maternity insurance or do most private insurances have a waiting period as well? I am having a hard time finding out answers for expats for pregnancy and maternity coverage on the nhs website! Tia!!

As soon as you get your visa and enter UK, having paid your IHS, you are eligible for the full range of NHS maternity service just like any other legal residents. The hospital will usually ask you to complete a simple questionnaire about your eligibility.
