Blimey - this one tells a few tales doesn't it?
I was talking to the owner of the nearest english chippy the other night and he used to be a plasterer in London a few years ago earning £21 per square metre. He said here there are experienced plasterers who (if they are lucky enough to get work) are doing it for a couple of euros!
I called a local mechanic who was highly recommended to me by many people (mobile mechanic) about getting my car fully serviced… bearing in mind that this guy is established in spain for several years, has a first class reputation, and is based about 40 minutes from where I live… He is charging me 30 euros labour for the service (plus parts). He reckons 2 hours work but he also has to drive 40 minutes here and 40 minutes back, so by the time he has done all his papers lets say 4 hours… thats 10 an hour, take off fuel and running costs for his van and tools…and taxes, he is probably working for about 5-7 euros an hour.
I asked when he can come and he said "any day next week at a time to suit you".
Just shows how even those who are well established at their trade, and with an unblemished track record are having to work for silly money just to compete and TRY to earn a living. Then you get people coming on here saying "im a mechanic and want to move to spain… will i get lots of work?"
Sorry, i went off topic there… good luck with the job hunt! :focus:
