Hi folks,

Me and the better half have decided to head down under in January 2015 and give New Zealand a bash. We have got most things sorted but struggling for details on other items.

The plan is to come over on working holiday visas while we try to secure permanent jobs (hopefully the wife might get an offer before we depart Blighty) and later apply for the skilled migrant visa to get residency.

We were wondering if anybody has imported their stuff into NZ (on a working holiday visa) and been charged GST? Had a look on their website and found it very confusing, it looks like we will be charged but we cannot figure out how much or on what. We are only shipping a handful of boxes (hopefully less than 10) and have decided to leave most things behind. The most expensive things are a DAB sound system, the rest are personal possessions, clothes, books etc.

The other bit is how easy is it to rent in Christchurch as a migrant (till we are welcomed with open arms...... hopefully!)? Also any tips, hints and nice areas... would be appreciated.

Also any riders around the Christchurch area that can recommend nice stables for lessons (very much beginners :)

Thanks
