The official government figures for air passengers at each Spanish Airport for August were issued today (a Sunday?)

The number of British tourists arriving in Malaga during the first quarter compared to the same period in 2008 dropped by 15.6 per cent. A total of 1,068,000 Britons travelled through Malaga Airport during the first half of 2009.

Overall, the figures are quite dreadful - only Girona and Alicante stand up - these are two airports that have benefited from Ryanair's commitment.

Estadísticas - Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea - Aena.es

Let's hope that's the bottom and the only way is up!

Back to the business of disagreeing with Stevie! If Málaga airtports tourist figures have dropped it can only be cos they've reduced the flights and cos of all the work there which has actually closed half the airport and its parking facilities!!!

I've just been there now and its heaving, cos of all the work going on its impossible to move anywhere, the whole place is unbelievably jammed up! Its gonna be great when its finished, which should be easter of next year, but at the moment, its a complete mess

In a worrying trend, I have to agree with Jojo again

Figures for August are down by 8.8% for pax and by 13,4% for "aircraft movements". I always have this vision of a constipated 737!

MALAGA 1.380.435 -8,8% MALAGA 11.386 -13,4%

Somebody had a go at me the other day for defending Ryanair - I think at the moment the councils of Girona and Alicante should be thinking of knighting Don Miguel O'Leary!

When I hear people like her banging on about Ryanair, my thoughts inevitably go to Harold MaCmillan. "You have never had it so good".

People bleating about the cost of coffee on a Ryanair flight from Blackpool the other day. Ten years ago you could not even choose to fly from Squires Gate! you would have had to drive to Liverpool's shed of an airport or Manchester. Now people in the North West have the choice of 3 and those in Yorkshire have 3/4.

Twenty years ago people saved up to come to Spain for a holiday once per year - not once per fortnight! So whilst the figures (and the crisis in general) are distressing, perhaps they are the reality check we all need.

¡A por Miguel, Olé!

Have you been to MÄlaga airport recently Steve, it was bad enough when I know you did go there, well they've close half the carparking now, the road going into the "llegadas" is now being used as a taxi rank, where they're joining the new bit to the exisiting terminal they've closed it and the new runway is encroaching onto the queuing bit for the planes. They dont have enough gates to service flights at the mo so planes are havng to park up miles away from the terminal and passengers are being bussed to the building. Anyway, even if it was only 15% drop, thats a very small drop on such a large ammount of passengers.

HOWEVER, I agree that Ryanair are ok, they and all the other budget airlines giving travellers the choice of price, transport and standard, not all their ideas will catch on and there maybe other things they'll try, but the public will make those decisions by whether they use them or not!

Gone are the days when only the elite few could fly and it would always be very grand, now its open for everyone!

My goodness, agreeing three times in a day!! Taliban, Sue get a hat!

Oops, I/you forgot you were married LOL

In fact I don't think that losing 130,00 pax in juts one month is such a "small drop" as I am sure the shops, bars, hotels et of the coast do not either. There now, that's better!! LOL
