Lefkara is one of the heritage highlights of Cyprus, gets very busy in the summer (well it did before the slump) and also choked with tourist buses etc. Pano Lefkara (where the school is) and Kato Lefkara (the smaller village below the main town) has a combined population of 1,100 (mostly Cypriots) with a smattering of Russians, English, French and others in the town. The majority of buildings there are empty (the population was once much higher) and are slowly being preserved through agrotourism and lettings to summer visitors.
It takes about forty minutes to get to Lefkara from Nicosia, but if you plan to work in Nicosia (depending on where in the city you'll be working) it could take much longer to get to work as the traffic bottlenecks at the Bank traffic lights as the highway reaches the City outskirts at Strovolos. It can take anything up to an hour to get from there to parts of the city, so the commute in could take up to 1.5 hours unless you get up very early.
My wife used to teach at the school in Lefkara so I'll ask what it's like and get back to you...
