I just wanted to recommend the site bbc.co.uk/languages for practising your French. It is a really pleasant way to learn, with videos. It has sections for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. It doesn't cost anything either so what have you got to lose?

Thanks for the recommendation. I've just done a test on my skill - took the post beginner one and didn't do too badly. Have bookmarked the site and will do a bit on it each day. I do the daily quiz on about.com which is sometimes geography or history based and other times can be on quite easy or trickier words - a quick bit of fun over breakfast.
