Hi everyone,
I don't know if this is the appropriate thread for asking about jobs but since the discussion is closely related I have decided to ask anyways.

I might be moving to either Perth or Melbourne in the next few months for studies. My parents would be responsible for my expenses but I would like to reduce the burden on them by working when I get there.

So, I want to find out about the availability of part time jobs in both Perth and Melbourne suitable for students and the average hourly pay rate etc.

P.s : The general perception is that racism can be a problem in Australia how does that effect the job prospects ( part time or casual jobs in particular) and every day living out there?

Look on these sites it will give you an idea of the jobs about in your field where you will be

SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site

Find Jobs. Build a Better Career. Find Your Calling. | CareerOne.com.au

As for racism, yes Australians can be racist but so can they in every other country! I didnt find it any more so than anywhere else.
If its something you are really concerned about dont be, Australia is a country of migrants and your potential employer could be from anywhere in the world themselves!
@ shel,
Thanks for your reply

I read some where that the min hourly pay rate was 15.5 AU$ but some one told me that its easy to get up to 20/hr doing part time jobs.
what are your thoughts on that.....

Depending on the field and the employer you could earn only min wage or much higher.
Small independent businesses can often only afford to pay the min but larger companies or jobs requiring specific skills would pay much more. It really depends on what type of work you would be looking for?
