Hello.

I wonder if anyone on the forum could help me or point me in the right direction regarding my current position.
I am from the UK. my late farther and his second wife both also from the UK owned property in France. Now that my farther has passed away I have been told by various people that I may in French law have a claim on his estate. any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your kind replies. What would happen if the property was purchased using Societe Civile Immobiliere ( SCI ) To avoid French inheritance laws ?
I hear many UK people chose this method of purchase.

Thanks again.
Hi,
After a quick search , it seems to me that the fact that the property is in an SCI does not deprive a reserved heir of their rights. You really need to discuss this with a notaire.

Thank you very much again parsnips your help has been much appreciated. I would like to take your advice and contact a notaire, do you know of a notaire in the Jugon les Lacs Brittany area or how I can go about finding one ? as you may have gathered I have no experience of doing this before :)
If you google the expression "English speaking notaire" you'll find there are a number of sites you can turn to for lists. Ideally, you should speak to someone located near to where your father's French home is located.
Cheers,
Bev
