I was granted my ILR recently.
If I want to briefly describe my situation, I was dependent of my partner who was on 5year Tire2. I just finished my PhD and am an academic visitor with a university. I don’t get paid and my partner covers my living expenses.

I am going to apply for Naturalisation next year. I am worry about the question they would ask me about my employment on “Section3: Good Character Requirement” of the AN form.
My question is when they ask me “What is your occupation?” what should be my answer?
I am currently not getting paid but during my study I did get some small money on my teaching assistant. I have my NI number and the payslip of those small moneys but those were not regular. Also I did not apply for any benefit yet as I don’t want those effect my AN application.

You may advise me about the choice available for me to improve my chance for naturalisation. Thanx

By occupation they mean your profession. So if you PhD. is in Engineering field then your occupation is Engineer. Just because you do not get paid does not mean your occupation/ profession changes. However, where they ask you about your income just be honest and state that you are working as an academic visitor with whichever University you are with and that the position is voluntary i.e. you do not get any salary.
