HI,

We're returning from outside the EU to settle in the UK after retirement. Even with the new (April 2015) rules in place I am confident that we'll have NHS free access as soon as we register with a GP and the other usual stuff.

But about a month after we return we need to go to elsewhere in the EU for a while on family business and would need an EHIC.

Is this going to be a problem for us?

So long as you have a UK address you can apply for a EHIC card.

A relative got theirs within a week, so usually pretty quick. You need to quote either your NHS number (after registering with GP) or NI number.
