Hello everyone,

I moved to Paris from Canada a year ago, but because I have double nationality (I'm Romanian as well) I came here as a Romanian expat. I have gone through all the work permit formalities and at the end of April I will have been working for 3 months.
I have just found out that I have a medical problem which will eventually require surgery and was wondering if anyone knows how long before I am eligible for securite sociale so I can decide if I should remain in France or return back to Canada for treatment.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

If you have been working for three months and paying into the French sécu system (cotisations), you should be applying for a Carte Vitale (or already have one). Your employer should have registered you with the sécu system when you were first hired.

This page from the Service Public site may help: Entrée dans la vie active : qui se charge d'immatriculer le salarié et comment ? - Service-public.fr

If you have your Carte Vitale, you can check on the Améli website to find out your status.
Cheers,
Bev
