I reckon we are another Ozzy and Hooch .... Partner is the oz and I am the hooch from Scotland. We also met online through a friend more than 4yrs ago now and I have already been out to visit twice last year and plan to go back before March. I am also looking to apply for visa but have had a lot of 'stuff' to sort out here in Scotland before I can even think about it. The biggest thing being that I had a couple health probs and have not been able to get back to work for a couple years. Other things have been family orientated.
It is good to hear someone else in similar position (without the health probs i hope lol).
I went out on an E-tourist 3 month visa, extended it while there and stayed 6months no problem but I don't know if that works from the States. I also downloaded all the forms for a partner visa online to give me an idea what is necessary before applying.
Good luck to you both
C.
