I'm so glad I found this forum!

I am Canadian. My wife and I live and work in Denmark (she is a Danish citizen). I have a job offer at an American University (Prof) and we are seriously considering to move.

The only sticking point is her ability to work. She has a Masters degree in information technology, although she is neither an engineer nor a technician/IT specialist. She currently works as a project manager in the telco industry.

I am not worried about my ability to get a visa - that seems clear enough. But I am very concerned about whether or not my wife will be able to get a visa that will allow her to work.

Questions I hope someone can help with:

1. Will my wife be able to work in the US?
2. If so, can someone provide an estimate as to how long this process will take?
3. Is this realistic in the current economic climate?

Thank you in advance to any who respond. Your time is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards.

The commonest visa is the non-immigrant H1b........but your spouse would not be allowed to work in the US.

She would be allowed to work in the US if the college sponsored you directly for an immigrant visa OR if the college petitioned to adjust your H1b status to permenant resident after entry.

Negotiate your visa terms wisely with your prospective employer! If it's not on paper, it probably isn't happening.
