I'm 67, emigrated to MA last June, got married to an American lady of 51 who has worked in the USA for more than 10 years. I've just got my Green Card. I believe I'm uninsurable because of my age and yet it seems I will be fined each year by MA state tax system for not having insurance! I'd be interested to hear other pensioner immigrant's experiences of the health fiasco here. Can anybody advise me if I am eligible for Medicare? I know I should apply but just wondering if I'd be wasting my time ?

I believe you have to have lived in the US for 5 years to be eligible for Medicare - however under the Massachusetts program, isn't there a state-sponsored insurance you can get, or some sort of "pool" of insurers for those who are otherwise unable to get a basic policy elsewhere?
Cheers,
Bev

You're won't be eligible for Medicare.until you've been a PR for 5 years.

What was the result of www.mahealthconnector.org?
