Got visa and now panicking!

Hi all,
I am new to this forum so would appreciate any assistance.
We have our permanent visa and are planning to move end of October.
Problem is there are so many choices!!!
I work in marketing, husband is commercial diver. Its difficult to get much feedback from companies about whether they have work until you get there - they just say, give us a shout when you get here.

We would need to be near the sea and like swimming, diving, biking etc. Also have 2 kids ages 7 and 9, and would like somewhere warm (though not far north!)

We were looking at Perth but everyone I know in Oz says don't go there, too limited for work, too cliquey, too far away from everywhere else! We also looked at Brisbane which looks good but again hard to find out about commercial diving work.

We currently live in a small village so thought the move to a really big city like Sydney would be too much.

If life was simple and we had a job offer we could just go to that place and start from there....but like I say so many choices.

Has anyone got any advice on where to start? We also don't have buckets of money to go touring all these cities to see what we like!

thanks in advance
Alva

Go to the place with the most commercial diving companies. That way your husband will have the most possible choices for his line of work.

hi alva

welcome to the forum.

first see what weather suits u the most, trust me work is there everywhere. u shud first adjust in the place, the weather should suit u. i know a lot of people in perth who are happy they feel it is closer to the rest of the world (ok a few hours only but still). and people will keep commenting on whatever u decide. go by what ur heart says. search the forum for perth, adelaide, brisbane.. read about the culture, weather etc and decide what u prefer. then look up ur skill in the job portals and see wehre u can find maximum openings, tht too wud help u decide.

karen (another mod here by screen name Kaz101) is near adelaide i believe, and she is very happy.. u cant ry searching for her posts too..
Congratulations and all the best for your new life :)
yay! congratulations!

and i hope that whatever you decide, you will be happy with it. good luck with the move, and everything else!!

No I'm not near Adelaide unless 440km is counted as near :) We're actually closer to Melbourne than to our state capital of Adeliade but Anj is correct that we are very happy here.

I don't know of any commercial divers down here (that doesn't mean that there aren't any). The only diver I know works for local government.

Regards,
Karen
