Hi,

Does anybody know much about Gosford? The main thing we need to know is if it is realistic to commute to Sydney for work everyday? We can see it is about 90km away but wondered if anyone could offer any advice on how long it might take, and how it is we could get there, is it straightforwars or require several trains etc?
After researching the area and its surrounding suburbs it looks like a great area for us, especially the type of house you can get for the money!, proximity to beach, good schools, shops etc.

Many thanks in advance

Gosford is lovely - much more laid back town than busy bustling city. I have known several people that commute to Sydney daily however its not for everyone - there are direct trains from Gosford to Sydney CBD and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Have a look at the cityrail website (www . cityrail . com . au sorry can't post a url apparently because Im a newbie) the gosford trains run on the central coast and newcastle line. You will be able to look at timetables, fare prices etc.

Thanks very much that is really helpful, it did seem like a lovely area with some nice suburbs, just really trying to find somewhere within a reasonable commute to sydney where we can afford to buy a nice home near to the beach! Thanks again

Hi ya just seen your post. Have read it as we were doing research on Terrigal/ Gosford the other night from home in London, to see if it is commutable...... as agree the property/ environment looks fab. Otherwise Dee Why etc are lovely and much nearer but probably much pricier. Good luck with your move, I cant wait to see how you get on, so please keep this updated.....

That is the main reason they are expensive, not because they're big houses (land value mainly), but because they are near the city and near the beach. Dee Why is probably the most affordable of the Northern Beaches (also check out Brookvale and Manly Vale).

Gosford is outside Sydney, but Dee Why is within Sydney. Lots of people do the commute, but you do have to give up at least 3 hours a day commuting, you'd have the less expensive house in Gosford, but would you have time to enjoy the beach other than weekends?

Dee Why is 45 mins by bus to the CBD. Houses are about 700k+

Thanks so much for the advice, after months of research we finally feel like we are getting to know the areas and have a better idea of what we really want.

After much thought I think it is safe to say we have given up on the whole Terrigal/Gosford area, my husband won't be finishing work early and so the commute really wouldn't be worth it. We are now looking in areas much closer to Sydney CBD. Forestville looks like a nice area, as do areas like Dee why, Lane Cove etc.

Caroline will you be moving to Sydney soon?
