Good place for single, retired expat to 'land'?

Plan to move to SEA in 2025, and interested in finding a short-term place to stay (6 months to a year) while I explore longer-term, lower cost options in both Thailand and Philippines (and work on visa issues, etc).

I should have $3,000 USD per month to live on, and about $300,000 USD in retirement accounts. I prefer living in a larger place (2 bedrooms is preferred so I have a separate office), fully furnished, real kitchen with full size refrigerator and a real cooktop, and a pool would be great. Ideally a condo, townhouse, or apartment. Far enough outside of a major city to not be subject to nightly madness, but close enough to get there using reasonable transportation like rail or Grab. Curious to know what kind of city-outskirts places people are living in that offer that kind of lifestyle, that would be well within my means.

Open to any of the major cities, as this is temporary anyway. Already posted this question in the Philippine expat forum as I’m keeping options there open as well.

Thanks in advance!

For Thailand, i would suggest Chiang Mai for slower pace but with many of the western conveniences. Most of Thailand has issues with pollution from agricultural burning and vehicles. It can get get quite thick for several months or longer. Definitely something to consider. There are several expat areas in and around town. I stayed in the old city across from Wat Chiang Man at Frangipani Serviced Residences. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc.

Another place to consider is down on the eastern seaboard in Rayong. Can recommend Kantary Bay serviced apartments.
For more responses, you can post over at aseannow also. Seems to be more active.

I'm new on ExpatForum. I have been told that spending winter (Jan-Apr) in Thailand is a nice place to stay, play golf and not expensive. Unfortunately, all offers from any agencies are very expensive at least 2-3 times more than spending winter in USA as a snowbird. Do you have any suggestions to stay, rent a mobile home or bungalow, with a golf course close by and at reasonable prices. Best regards Roger.
