Hi,

My American girlfriend and I are planning to get married next year, then we figure looking at the immigration stuff it'd be easier to move to the UK for a while then move to the states. Am i right in thinking we couldn't get married in the states with me on a normal travel visa?
Also any advice on which would be easier/quicker route going to the UK first or the USA?

Thanks.

You can get married while in the US as a tourist - you don't need any special visa, just need to follow any local laws in the area in which you are marrying.

If following the marriage you want your wife to live in the UK then YOU, the Brit, need to sponsor her. She remains in the US during the process. Takes about three months

If you wish to live in the US, then your wife sponsors you. Again, you will need to return to the UK while this is in process. Takes 8 to 12 months.
