As a reminder, we are heading into flu and Covid season and you might want to consider vaccinations. The vaccines are now being rolled out in the autonomous communities. If you have access to the public health system, things are real easy. Just call the number on the back of the card and ask for an appointment. I got an appointment for five days later. The appointment was for 1030, I got there at 1000 and was out of there by 1015.

Note-This post is only intended for people that have decided vaccination is worth-while and may simply need a reminder or instructions of going about getting them.

Is it possible to get them if you don't have access to the public health system? More than willing to pay out of pocket . My last jabs were a few years ago in thailand. Just had a relative die from the flu. 75 years old.

Before I had coverage in the public health system, for a few years I bought the vaccine from a farmacia and made an appointment at a private health clinic for a nurse to give the injection. As far as I'm aware you can't pay the public system for them to do the vaccination.

The pharmacies where I live will sell you the flu vaccine for a nominal cost (like 5 euros) with no prescription; however, they do not administer them. However, it is a pretty easy jab.

In Andalucia we don't have to ring, when the dates for our particular age group become available (they have been doing over 80s and vulnerable people in lower age groups for the past couple of weeks, they will be moving on to the over 70s this coming week) then appointments become available on the Andalucian Health Service website and apps and we can book them via those.

I noticed on the app a couple of days ago that they are available in the comunidad valenciana for over 60s. I haven't booked yet, but will very soon.

I actually missed last year. I had made an appt but had a heavy cold & cancelled, & just didn't get around to it again. Didn't catch either, but I don't plan to miss the jabs this year.

Also just a reminder: the current boosters help reduce the risk of severe COVID, but they don’t necessarily stop you from getting infected — and they definitely don’t stop you from spreading it, even if you’re asymptomatic. COVID isn’t “just a cold”; it can (and does) cause long-term vascular and neurological damage.

If you’ve had COVID before, your risk of Long COVID goes up with each reinfection. So this season, along with boosters, it’s worth thinking about adding masks back into the mix — especially indoors or in crowded places.

I have three friends with Long COVID now, and it’s completely changed their lives. They were all vaccinated and boosted. Two had mild infections (both in their 40s) and one had a severe case (in her 30s). All are still struggling badly. :(

I'm not suggesting this as an alternative to vaccinations, but last winter I decided I was fed up of being coughed and sneezed on in the Metro (it seems we as a species learned nothing from the pandemic and still openly cought and sneeze in crowded places without covering our nose and mouth). So I started to wear a face mask when travelling on public transport.
This had two noticeable benefits:
Everyone would assume I was either ill or a nutter and stayed away from me.
I did not get ill even once last winter.

Needless to say I will be repeating this idea this winter.

I got a reminder about the flu and covid jabs as I'm over 60.
I've never ever had a flu jab and never had flu...
I did have the covid jabs when covid was around but not bothered since. Each to their own.
