Originally my American girlfriend and I (same sex couple) were going to go down the fiancé visa route as soon as I could meet the financial requirement which I'm on target for, fingers crossed.

But now looking at the cost and process am I right in thinking we would have to change visa's once the civil partnership was entered into in the UK, Fiancee visa into FLR?
Since money is going to be tight we are considering getting married in the US on my next visit, but I just wanted to check if UKBA recognise same sex marriage from the US?

Im saying yes they do but my girlfriend feels its not guaranteed and we should not take the risk!!

Any help on this would be great, in advance.

You have no reason to worry. Same-sex marriage or CP will be recognised in UK, and you don't need any special document or visa for it - just the normal ESTA/visa waiver.
