Extending Work Authorization

927 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jenna188
Hi!

I am currently in the U.S on an F-1 student visa. This year I have work authorizaton via the OPT option of the F-1 visa. I have a permanent position as a teacher in an elementary school.

I will be getting married to a U.S. citizen at the end of July, and my work authorization is valid until August. As I understand it, once I become married and file for Adjustment of Status etc., it could take up to 90 days to receive work authorization. Since I have a permanent position, I will need to start working again in September. Is it possible to extend my current work authorization while I wait for my AOS paperwork to go through?

I'm just wondering if I have any options. I don't want to lose my job.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

Jen

Did we not go over this last year? Jenna - I have never heard of extending OPT work authorizations. On what basis would you do so?
