I don’t see much posted here about Uruguay but I am an American living in Uruguay more than 10 years now so if I can be of help to anyone give me a shout!

My husband are going there in February to check it out. We absolutely want to retire down there. We have a good chunk of money stashed and are going to be selling our house here. Is it difficult to be a modest house there? We are looking for a reputable realtor. I have sooo many questions.

Thanks for your offer to answer questions, RE. I am considering relocating to Uruguay with my 94 year old mother. What do you know about eldercare or longterm care for temporary or permanent residents? Thank you for your time. UG

Elder care or home nursing is available particularly in the more urban areas. In fact even in hospitals it is common to have a private duty nurse. Labor rates are quite reasonable so you should have no issues if comparing it to Assisted living in the US. There are also “Residencias” for seniors but they are smaller and not necessarily staffed by nurses and such. Also if your mother doesn’t speak Spanish it will be tough!

Hi,
We are planning to move in a few months to Montevideo.
We will get our residency there.
Is it possible to import motorcycle into Uruguay?
What are necessary papers and related costs?

Looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks

I have a bank account in UY, with the idea of buying RE some time soon. It is not a huge amount, but I asked my accountant about reporting it in my taxes and he asked about the interest on the money, and based on the interest not being significant he said I didn't need to report it. I'm not very confident in his knowledge about foreign accounts. Do you have resources, knowledge or information on the matter. Thank you in advance.

Hi all. My wife and I live in the US and plan to visit Uruguay later this year, partly to consider whether we'd want to live there. She is a dual US/Brazilian citizen, so she could qualify for permanent residence in Uruguay. Would love to hear from anyone who has worked with immigration attorneys in Uruguay and can recommend one or tell us how the process went for you. Also, is there anything equivalent to Meetup in Uruguay? (Meetup has a page for Uruguay, but no one is listing anything on it.) How have you gone about meeting people there? We're both pretty comfortable in Spanish so there won't be a big language barrier for getting to know locals. (Also, just a protocol question, should I start a new thread for this message?) Thanks. --Dan

Looking to leave US for a more stable situation. Uruguay has always had a certain draw, though I’ve only visited BA,ARG but not UY. I’m a teacher with an MBA, spouse is fluent in Spanish and works in social case work, with a teenage child. We’re not exactly big city folk, or beach folk; a smaller town with good infrastructure would be up our alley. On VA comp, so good $ each month.
