For years I have asked Ben to locate a decent technician to look at some faulty gear we own, finally 3 weeks ago he found one and local.
Firstly and mentioned in another topic was the 65" Samsung tv @ 14 months old died. Samsung came and pulled it apart (700 peso call out fee) Sir out of warranty and you will need a new screen, it's faulty, how much will that cost? We will get back to you once we confirm the cost back at the office. A week later P32K plus the call out fee. told Ben to go buy another 55" for the same price.
Aside we had the new guys that charge 600 call out and if they fix total will be 6.5K for the TV and the Polk sound system.

They, 2 of them spent 3 hours on the TV, fixed it, then a quick test by them revealed that we needed to buy another power supply as the old one is dead for the Polk sound system. Their bill was P 2K as no components just cleaning moistier off all the contact points on the screen. A new 5 amp power supply (ASUS) online delivered P 400.

Next time it will be the two Steinman 10" sub woofers, two amplifiers, a couple of DVD/CD players, a printer that is not feeding paper properly and I'm sure I'll find more things to fix.
Nice to find competent people that won't rip you off.

Cheers, Steve.

During the past few years here, I (amateur fixit person) have fixed several mobile phones, our microwave, 2 laptop computers , and 2 flat screen (power surge/lightning-damaged) TVs, plus a couple or three fans...all at little cost.
Some great info' on YouTube and google. (Never too old to learn, and I've little else to do. lol)

The Saga continues, 4 days later we plug in the TV, sound bar and Cignal,,,,,, the TV won't turn on, tries and flickers but nada. Let's see how the one month warranty goes from the technicians, Ben just told me they recommend not to buy Samsung TV's, perhaps a deck of cards would be cheaper. Never another Samsung TV.

Cheers, Steve.

Thank you Steve for keeping us posted and your candor is always appreciated I don't hear that enough from my fellow Expats, because "warning" these guys can't fix your appliances so the joke (their joke) is buy a new one and go with that always because you've just wasted your money.

My Dowell coffee pot of 10 years has finally bit the dust no possible fix when the plastic starts to crumble where the water tubes connect and I couldn't be happier than with my brand new one.

TV's... Don't go there because the fix is just as depressing, its not gonna work for long.

AC units can be repaired and you'd be surprised to find minor issues with mainly the large capacitor because of the power fluctuating and so that will degrade and damage the large capacitor. If you order the capacitor online its 200 pesos but through the technician/parts store it'll be closer to 1000 pesos, so for a technician to repair this it'll be 2000+ pesos.

Cell phones Smart phones can be repaired the parts are there find a technician in the mall or stand alone cell phone repair shop.

Thanks Mark, candor abounds here, you know we all speak our mind and share both good and bad.

Capacitors yes, even a fool like me can do that and they are cheap, I have replaced plenty of start capacitors over the years especially in water pumps and learnt to up the uF (micro farad) rating by 10%. the latest was some weeks ago with the Automatic gate opener failing to close properly, seemed to open fine but many times had to disengage the motor and gears and close manually, a big gate and a pain in the proverbial, I replaced the 25Uf with 30Uf and hasn't missed a beat,,, touch wood.

The 65inch TV? perhaps the Samsung technicians new what the local company didn't, all beyond me unless it has a Motor and a gearbox or a simple capacitor.
New power supply arrived and the Polk sound bar is perfect so seems they got that right.

Cheer, Steve.

I'll get things going one way or another.

Here's one of the wife's old 'bust' phones (touchscreen not working) given a new lease of life. lol

Below that, the motherboard/combined power supply I sent off for, and fitted to one of my 42" TVs....at p880 inc delivery from China. Works perfectly again. (y)
