I and my wife (EU citizen) sent EEA applications in mid April 2017 but the payment has not been debited from our account over 2 months later!
This total silence is worrying indeed.
Has anyone been in this situation or know of someone that is/was?
We called the contact centre but they said to wait for UKVI.
Any advice for further steps?

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe EEA residence card applications often take up to 6 months

I am aware of the 6 months stipulation for the whole process but payment is usually taken immediately after applications are received. From what I have seen here and on other fora the HO takes payment only a couple of days after receipt and then delay with the actual paperwork. My concern is that they may delay and then inform us 6 months later that there was a problem with payment.

Are you kidding?! :)

The government delay when there's the collection of ££££ involved?

NEVER!

I'm pretty sure that they'll let you know posthaste if there's a problem with the payment... goodness forbid they start work before payment received! ;)

Exactly!
And therein lies the cause of my worry. Is it possible that our bank can reject a payment and not notify us?
