After some general advice on driving in France, any further specific advice would be appreciated too.

I'm borrowing a friends car and about to embark on the wonderful and terrifying prospect of driving on the right hand side of the road from Rennes to Agen, about 550km. We're leaving Christmas eve and coming back the Monday after. We've had a look at mappy.com for the fuel and toll prices, and have thought to take the routes national instead of the free ways to avoid roughly 35E in tolls. Has anyone experienced any part of this journey before and is able to offer advice? The plan is Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux, Agen (half way between Bordeaux and Toulouse). Failing specific advice, general advice on driving in France would be appreciated.

My French is pretty good these days, and I'm traveling with my French partner so I don't envision road signage or similar to be a problem.

Many thanks,

G.
