Anyone here ride dirt bikes (scramblers, etc...)? Got back into late last year after a long hiatus (like 15 years long!) with my friend but he moved away a few months later, found another person to ride with but they had a little crash and won't be riding again for a few month and now I've got a bike but no one to ride with and the weather getting perfect again.

I'm a fairly competent rider but I am definitely a ways away from riding full throttle through the dunes and usually do Stadium (Al Awir) to fossil rock and back in about 2 1/2 hours (I should note that the person I was doing that run with was a bit slower than me :D). My bike is stored with Emirates Bike Tours at the Stadium and as I live in an apartment I don't have a trailer so riding from anywhere else would be difficult...

It's been about six weeks since I my last ride (weather, vacation, as aforementioned crash) and I'm seriously needing to get out there again, help!

(fyi I ride a 2010 KX 450f)

Hey Tootall, although I'm not in a position to join you for spins just yet, hopefully I will be early next year. I'm in my first week here in Dubai, but I am a huge bike lover back home in Ireland. Raced tracks semi-professionally for years, and went off into the bush on an XR400 when I was in Australia. Savage craic!

good to know aj, hit me up if/when you're ready. If you get the urge to ride the company i mentioned above does bike rentals and guided desert tours.

I'd appreciate if you could send me any links to the companies via PM so I could have a look?
Got to work out the finances for the month but if I can squeeze it in, I'll definitely let you know. Next month might work better though since I'll be paying for an apartment this month and need a few things too.

I'm looking at getting back on 2 wheels after a long hiatus since moving here 2 years ago! Was a regular road track day rider in Australia, but am keen to get a dirt bike in Dubai - the only thing holding me back is people to ride with!

I'm looking at a tour with a buddy at Emirates bike tours to see how I go on the dirt/sand - I've only had a few hrs riding dirt bikes in Oz, but am a petrolhead & not afraid to give anything with a motor a good hiding! ;)

What's the craic Cammac. Where about's in Aus you from? I did a couple trackdays in Eastern Creek when I was over that direction.
When are you thinking of heading out with Emirates bike tours?

I'm from Melbourne, so used to do track days at Phillip Island and Broadford.... and Albert Park (when it was a public road) which resulted in a lengthy loss of license and my moving to Dubai! :thumb:

I've only got 1 other mate who's keen to do a tour (I'd only be able to do a day tour), but he's piss-farting around, so I've told him I'm going to do 1 in October regardless. I saw there's 3 different ones to choose from - all look pretty awesome!

Living in Tecom at the moment, so when I get a bike I'll have to do the whole storage thing I've been reading about here.

I should be able to join you (if you want the company) at the end of October if things work out for me. In the process of getting apartment, so all my money is going into that at the moment.

Yeah for sure - the more the merrier! I need to get a network of offroad riders so that my bike doesn't sit around collecting dust when I buy it! The guys I work with don't ride, and the blokes I socialise with don't either - I'm starting to go nuts!! :frusty: I'd love a road bike here, but I've always wanted to give dirt bikes a crack, and they're just so cheap here compared to Oz!

Nice to see more interest! If you are planning on doing a weekend ride you best call them early cause they are extremely busy with the tours and bike rentals. That being said I would love to join too!

I wouldn't say I'm an experienced rider either. Spent some time on a Honda XR400 in the bush in Melb but that's about it. I'm sure sand riding is a bit different ;)

I had mates back home that rode pro-am moto-x and I used to ride their Yamaha 450's but found they were a lot easier to manage than my road bike! I'm dying to get ripping in the dunes - but also go exploring places like Hatta and also the wadi's out there.

I reckon I'll look at doing the tour on Friday October 18th...

If I am in country on the 18th I will tag along too and throw some dirhams in for the guide. I could probably take you out on my own but I don't think they rent bikes to new people without at least one guided session.

As I mentioned before if you haven't contacted them yet about a booking I highly recommend you call asap. It's quickly become riding season and it is not unusual for them to be fully booked on weekends for weeks in advance.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll give them a call today and see what they're looking like on the 18th and then post it up here!

Never heard of Just Gas It. I did two rides with EBT and I have stored my bike there for the last year and don't have any real complaints. I vote for EBT cause my bike is there and I dont have a trailer :(

Done - that makes it easier! I'll give em a buzz. I don't have a place to store a bike, so it'll be a good chance to check out their facilities!
