Hi,

We are in the early stages of immigrating to Aus! Our agent in Perth has advised informed us that She intends applying for 176 Visas for our family, as soon as my wife teaching qualification has been assessed by teaching Australia. I would like to know if anyone can advise me on how to go applying for my 56 year old mother who is currently NOT living with us, but whom we would like to take with us to Australia. She not self supportive, as my Brother living in Norway owns the house in which she lives, and helps out finacially too. How big of an issue is it to have her as a dependant on our visa application, when it gets to that! please can anyone offer some advise

for your mother you have to prove she is dependent on you, if you manage that, you can take her with you. what does your agent say about her?

Thanks for the quick reply! To be honest I have yet to mention it to our agent! As I say my brother is married and living in Norway, and if all goes well we would like to take my Mother with us! The idea was for my brother to sell his house and my mother to move in with us. then I suppose it would be simpler!

if you add her now to your applciation, it would be easier, once you get the visa, it is difficult to get them over, either you have to wait for 8 yrs to get her over on PR or you have to pay a huge amount for her contributory parent visa.

Fortunately we have not got to that stage yet, as we are waiting for my wifes teaching assessment. I will definately mention it to our agent once we have received a positive assessment! Thank you for your advise! Much appreciated, its great to be able to throw questions around!

i think you shoudl tell your agent now, so that you can start collecting proofs. that is what takes time and i am sure you would not want your application to be delayed :)

Hmm at the risk of hijacking the OP's thread, once I am a PR, if I can prove my mother's a dependant may I sponsor her over? Or I have no choice but to go the super-long route of the parent visas?

you either have her in your application now (if she is dependent you can still add her) or you apply later and wait for years or go the contributory route..

Hi there,

It is incredibly difficult to prove a parent is truly 'dependent' on you for visa purposes.

For example, can you prove:

You pay any/all of her bills
She has been living with you for at least 12 months or more
Proof she has no independent source of income, ie pensions etc
If she has a bank account, proof that you transfer money into her account to pay bills etc
Obtain a signed statement from a doctor/bank manager etc to corroborate she is truly dependent on you

I really think you need to ask the advice of an agent, it's going to be a very difficult thing for you to do.
