Date of Departure After Visa Granted

Hi all. I wanted to ask if someone could she some light on a question that came up for my family. We have applied for a long stay visa because of a job offer and listed 2 weeks prior to the contract start date as the "Intended Date of Entry".

Because of a medical condition, travel at that time must be delayed. Once the consulate issues the visa, do you have a time limit on when the travel must occur? Do you have to travel on the "Intended Date of Entry" or is there some flexibility? If yes, how much?

Thank you.

You don't have to travel on the date you gave them. Basically the visa is only the document to allow you to enter the country - but, if you have to delay your travel, the expiration date of the visa still holds as reported on the visa in your passport. Personally, I wouldn't delay your date of travel by more than a month or two if I could help it. The processing time for everything these days can be slow.

You have to apply to renew your residence permit about two or three months before the expiry date on your visa. So plan accordingly.
