Customs Questions

Hi All,

My husband and I are trying to figure out what we should do with our antiques. We are a lot of paintings, drawings, figurines and small antiques that are for our collection. Our initial idea was to pack them in a suitcase when we come back to the UK as we don't have many other items to bring over apart from clothes.

Does anyone know how the customs thing works for antiques? If we took them in our suitcase would we be questioned at the airport? We were looking atr shipping but it just seems so expensive.

Any thoughts?

Call the British consulate.

More often than not customs are not interested in a few items in your suitcase, but that is no guarantee that you will not be stopped and searched if they thing you have something to hide.

Antiques and art have many special rules you should be aware of, so I would really check before putting all my eggs in the "I didn't know the rules" basket.

Thanks for your reply. I certainly will call the consulate and find out what is best to do.
You can consult the airport authorities to know about how antiques do in customs. Prior consultation will leave you with a hassle free journey.
