Hello All,

Very good morning. Im in the process of applying Skilled Independent visa. I spotted an ambiguity in the site and required a clarification with you. The visa cost in AUD is 3520, however, in INR terms it quotes 207800 and today's exchange rate says 1 AUD = ~55.8 INR (which comes to around 197000). Can you kindly explain why there is a difference of around INR10000 between the quoted rate in Skill Select and the actual rate as per today's exchange rate please?

Regards,
Rakesh

Hi Rakesh,

according to the DIBP "How to pay" page:

The exchange rates used to calculate the visa application charge payable in a foreign country are updated periodically. [...]
The foreign currency rates are fixed for six months and apply to all visa applications received by the department on and after the day the exchange rate is changed.
Some Indian applicants get travel cards to pay the visa fee directly in Australian dollars, if the current exchange rate offered by their bank is more favorable. More details: http://www.expatforum.com/expats/au...-visa-payment-using-travelers-card-legal.html

Cheers,
Monika
