It really depends where you go. Cabo is $2000-$3000 a month but go to San Blas or Barre de Navidad You'll be closer to $1500-$2000
You can buy a small condo in Cabo right now for less than $125k and have monthly expenses of $1000 or less if you're frugal.

Memo to WestCoastBabe, Yes living is significantly cheaper than Vancouver... 40 to 50% in most cases and they've developed a quaint custom that is different than Canada... the price you see is the price you actually pay... no added VAT... HST or whatever. I live in a house that costs $250/mo..and the well stocked Wallmart here in Toluca has prices that are generally much lower than Canada...often for exactly the same products. The ATM's give a good exchange rate so just bring your bank card or Credit Card ... Canadian cards work fine here PROVIDED they are preauthorize to be used in Mexico beforehand. Bring your laptop... wireless is everywhere in Mexico, and arrangements can usually be made to connect to somewhere ...to keep in touch via Skype or email ... get a Magicjack module for free phone calls home... works slick... people are often amazed.

Ok, how bout this figure Last year was the deadliest since the Calderon anti-crime offensive began, with 8,928people killed, according to Reforma. So far this year, 2,904people have died, the newspaper said. The AP said the report put the toll at 9,635 last year and 3,365 in January through March this year. It was unclear why there were discrepancies in the report's figures. 38,000 pesos, for every death in that HELL HOLE, LOL.

Can someone tell me the approximate cost of living in Merida or a small town nearby? Two adults, one of whom works from home online, so need dependable fast internet. The other is an experienced massage therapist. Are they licensed like in the States? We speak Spanish and live parsimoniously.

I am a single woman living on disability, approx. 1200 USD a month (13,999 MXN). What cities would be good, cheap, safe would be in Mexico for a single 59 yr. old.? A simple house is fine. What would be the cost of all utilities?

Living frugally it is possible to enjoy an attractive, friendly, interesting, relatively safe place with a very nice climate: San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Although we own a piece of land there we rent a furnished 2br apartment very conveniently located for $300 a month. Electricity is inexpensive for us (about $10 a month, which is unusually low). You can get a 1br cheaper. There is a big expat community there, a decent library, dozens of pretty good restaurants, schools, galleries, and events. There are lots of things to do. While some hard-core expats shun the English-speaking community in favor of Mexican flavor, others find solace in being able to communicate in their native language.

It seems that the land of milk and honey has,or is turning to a land of PISS and VINEGAR.
Just to think that the people that I came from were the origional inhabitants of this land.
I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with life in these United States.
You work hard all your life and what is your reward?
A life of poverty................................
What happened to the Constitution? It, the same as the BIBLE seem to have been thrown away!!!!!!!

Great post and discussion .... I got a job opportunity in Mexico. My Office will be in Santa Fe. I will be glad if anyone can give me an idea about the cost of living in good neighborhood for foreign expatriates, near Santa Fe or better areas in Mexico city. I would need small apartment - I am single.

I've been offered a job based in Santa Fe, could anyone advise what the salary expectation should be for a Manager in a Telecommunications Company there? I've had a look on different websites but the information is misleading.

If anyone has a link for a decent realtor that does apartment rentals I would appreciate the info.

Thanks

I've been offered a job based in mexico city , and i have been offered 30,000 pesos . Could anybody advise if this would be enough for a single person to live in mexico city.
