Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I have a couple of questions.
First a brief intro.
I'm 42, married with two young daughters and we're all looking at moving over with our pet dog to hopefully Geelong. I lived in Oz for a year in '94 and have wanted to move over ever since. Now I may finally be getting the opportunity by being sponsored by my potential new employer in East Melbourne. Im guessing it would be on a "required skills" visa but will learn more in the next few weeks.
My first couple of questions are quite simple but are specific to the Geelong area regarding government schools for 7-9 year olds.
Secondly, my dog will be coming with us, we recently made a temporary move to the UAE so he's all up to date and fit regarding his vaccinations but I just wanted to hear from anyone that's imported a pet.
I was also looking at the tax deductions and can see that it looks quite simple (initially at least) with a basic fee plus cents per dollar over 100k for example. Is that it or are there other tax elements I need to consider? Obviously medical is extra but I'll be hoping my new employer will be covering this.
