Hi all - we live in Madrid and this year are planning to spend some time around Christmas with family down in the south - the in-laws are flying into Alicante, so we expect to stay somewhere nearish. Anyone recommend anywhere in particular? Not especially fussed about apartment vs house, but would prefer to be able to walk to shops/bars, and be in a small-medium town with at least some semblance of history, even if we stay in a new development. Trying to find somewhere that will accomodate a bit of beach (sandy, kids are bucket and spade age), a bit of walking, a bit of sightseeing, depending on weather.

you could do a lot worse than here Portada - Portal Turístico de Xàbia - Ayuntamiento de Xàbia

this will be our 11th Christmas here - it has ALWAYS been sunny on Christmas day!

I guess everyone is going to recommend where they are located but do take a look at El Campello.

A short tram ride from Alicante. Wonderful beach. Still has a Spanish feel to it that it is hard to find on the Costa Blanca.

Tram connection along the coast up to Benidorm.

2 or 3 small hotels and lots of apartments.

I think anywhere from El Campello up to Coveta Fuma is quite nice. The tram goes all the way up through there as has been said.

We are not located there but only about 10 minutes away by car, it's all a nice area.

Thanks all - in the end we'll be in Xabia as the ayuntamiento website made it look really well organised! Will probably try on of the areas nearer to Alicante at Easter with sister and nieces/nephews.
